In Seoul, growing concerns are emerging regarding the pilot project for "foreign domestic workers," introduced August in 2024 by the Seoul Government. On August 19, the IIUD visited the Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM) in Hong Kong, met with its representatives, Aaron and Joram. During the meeting, IIUD discussed the realities and challenges faced by Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong, violation to their human rights, problems in the current legislations, from which South Korea can learn to avoid similar problems.
APMM, a non-profit organization established in Hong Kong in 1984, is dedicated to promoting the rights of Filipino migrants. The organization works to address human rights violations and advocates for the welfare and decent work environment of Filipino migrant workers in various countries, including Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Its efforts encompass campaigns, education and research projects, network building, and collaborative programmes aimed at improving the rights and protections of migrant workers.
